Keepin' it real...

So, some of my regular and loyal readers (still can't believe that I actually have those...but anyway) have been asking about my plan to sell custom stationery and invitations in an Etsy shop. (If you're new to the blog, this idea is news to you, but that's okay...read on.) You have been so kind to even remember that I said such a thing and have been wondering (nicely) what's the ETA on said shop?

First, I have to say, I'm the kind of person that generally makes a real point of doing what I say I will do. Commitment and follow-through, however big or small, is really important to me. But, sometimes, life happens, and I have to confess that I do not control the universe. Ouch. That's actually a hard thing for me to admit at times. But there often comes a time where I have to admit that God does a better job at that than I do, so I should stick with doing the best I can in my little corner of it.

So here's the deal. I love making stationery and custom invitations. I also have a 3 1/2 year old and a 1 1/2 year old. I have a fledgling interior redesign & event business. I blog (to the detriment of the state of my house). I volunteer at church. And, on top of that, I've started working on one longer-term project that I won't share the details of now...but soon, I promise.

I'm embarrassed to admit this...but like a month ago - two months ago? - Alesha won my Nesting Instincts Giveaway. I still haven't completed the custom notecard set that she won! (And I promised Julia a little gift too...haven't finished that either.) I'm having a hard time getting everything done right now that's required of me. And it didn't take much introspection to realize and admit that now is not the best time for an additional commitment...i.e. an Etsy shop. Which is tough, because you all have been so encouraging each time I've shared an invitation I created. It makes me feel that people might actually buy something I created if I chose to try and sell it. But, funny thing...when you start a business, you have to be prepared for people to buy stuff...and right now, if I added one more thing to my plate...well...let's just say they would most likely all come crashing down.

I'm happy to say that I will still offer custom invitations as part of my event-planning packages. But creating a new line of business...well, as much as I'd like to...it's going to have to wait. That, and a shower. There's laundry to do. Girls to feed. A family to hug.

  1. I totally understand the time crunch (in fact, I was questioning my sanity when I was up at 1:00 a.m. putting my house tour blog post together...and I don't have *any* kids!).

I will continue to enjoy your stationery on your blog...the recipients are lucky ducks!

  2. Sounds like the timing's off for this venture, but I hope you can get back to it sometime in the future. You're so talented! I always enjoy seeing the invitations you've come up with.

Can't wait to find out what the longer-term project is! You're such a tease. ;-)

  6. You are not alone! I have a difficult time with the word "no" and often find that I have too much on my plate. Kudos to you for knowing when to say "maybe later"
